About the Xhosa Language

Xhosa is one of South Africa's eleven official languages and the second-most widely spoken there after Zulu, with around 19 million native speakers. It's a Bantu language famous for its click consonants, which are written with the letters c, q, and x. The Xhosa-American community is small, with concentrations in Houston, Atlanta, and Boston. Our Xhosa translation work is mostly USCIS civil documents (South African birth and marriage certificates), academic transcripts for credential evaluation, and the occasional asylum-related document tied to ongoing political and economic conditions in southern Africa. Nelson Mandela was a native Xhosa speaker, and Xhosa enjoys significant prestige in South African public life.
