View transcription service →Sinhala (Sinhalese) is the official language of Sri Lanka alongside Tamil, with around 16 million native speakers. It's an Indo-Aryan language — distantly related to Hindi and Bengali — but isolated geographically by the surrounding Dravidian-speaking regions of South India. Sri Lanka's long civil war and subsequent emigration created a significant Sinhalese-American community, concentrated in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, New York, and New Jersey, with strong representation in healthcare and tech. Our Sinhalese translation work is split between USCIS civil documents (Sri Lankan birth and marriage records), academic transcripts, and the occasional asylum-related document. Sinhala uses its own distinctive curved script.
