About the Pedi Language

Pedi (Sepedi, Northern Sotho) is one of South Africa's eleven official languages, spoken by around 4 million people primarily in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng provinces. It's closely related to Sesotho (Southern Sotho) and Setswana. The US Pedi-speaking community is small and part of the broader South African-American population. Our Pedi translation work is rare; South African civil documents are typically in English and routed accordingly.

  • Primary regions: South Africa
  • Language origin / family: South Africa
  • Estimated speakers: 4.6 million
