About the Oromo Language

Oromo (Afaan Oromo) is the largest indigenous language of Ethiopia by speaker count, with around 37 million native speakers — also widely used across the Ethiopia-Kenya borderlands. It's a Cushitic language written in the Latin-based Qubee alphabet. The US Oromo-American community is concentrated in the Twin Cities (one of the largest Oromo populations outside Ethiopia), Washington DC, Atlanta, and Seattle. Our Oromo translation work is mostly USCIS asylum and family-reunification paperwork, alongside academic transcripts and church records.

  • Primary regions: Ethiopia, Kenya
  • Language origin / family: Horn of Africa
  • Estimated speakers: 40 million
