About the Nigerian Language

There is no single "Nigerian" language — Nigeria is one of the world's most linguistically diverse countries, with more than 500 indigenous languages. The major Nigerian languages we handle include Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Edo (Bini), Ibibio, Fulfulde, and Tiv — see our separate pages for each. English serves as Nigeria's official language and most civil documents are issued in English. Nigerian Pidgin English is also widely used as a lingua franca. When a US client requests "Nigerian translation" our first question is which specific Nigerian language is needed.

  • Primary regions: Nigeria
  • Language origin / family: Nigeria
  • Estimated speakers: 75 million
