About the Khmer Cambodian Language

Khmer-Cambodian is the same language as Cambodian (see our Cambodian page) — Khmer is the language's native name and the standard term used in linguistics; Cambodian is the everyday English name. Around 16 million people speak it, primarily in Cambodia, with the major US Cambodian-American community in Long Beach (California), Lowell (Massachusetts), Stockton, and Philadelphia. Most of our Khmer translation work is civil documents and the citizenship and benefits paperwork for older first-generation refugees who arrived after the Khmer Rouge.

  • Primary regions: Cambodia
  • Language origin / family: Cambodia
  • Estimated speakers: 16 million
