About the Italian Language

Most Italian translation work in the United States comes from a single use case: Americans of Italian descent applying for Italian citizenship by jure sanguinis. The process requires certified translations of Italian birth, marriage, and death certificates going back several generations, often paired with Apostille work. Italy itself has about 85 million Italian speakers, plus smaller communities in Switzerland, San Marino, and parts of Croatia and Slovenia. We also handle commercial contracts between US importers and Italian manufacturers — fashion, food, machinery — but the genealogy and citizenship work is the volume driver.

  • Primary regions: Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, parts of Switzerland and large Italian-American communities in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania
  • Language origin / family: Indo-European, Romance language family — descended from Latin
  • Estimated speakers: Around 85 million speakers worldwide
