About the Hindi Language

Hindi is the most widely spoken language across northern India and one of India's two official Union languages. Around 600 million people speak it, including roughly 900,000 in the United States — concentrated in New Jersey (Edison, Jersey City), the San Francisco Bay Area, Houston, Dallas, and Chicago. Most of the Hindi translation work we handle is for USCIS — birth, marriage, and educational certificates for green-card applications and family-reunification cases — and for US universities accrediting Indian degrees. Hindi is written in Devanagari, the same script used for Sanskrit, Marathi, and Nepali, and the formal vocabulary draws heavily from Sanskrit roots.

  • Primary regions: India and Hindi-speaking communities across the United States — particularly New Jersey, California, Texas, Illinois and New York
  • Language origin / family: Indo-European, Indo-Aryan language family — written in Devanagari script
  • Estimated speakers: Over 600 million speakers worldwide
