About the German Language

German is the official language of Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, and most of Switzerland, with around 130 million native speakers. For US clients, German translation work tends to be technical: engineering specifications, automotive and pharmaceutical documentation, patents, and academic papers translated for credential evaluation. We also handle civil documents — birth, marriage, and divorce records — for genealogy research and for EU citizenship applications, particularly for descendants of mid-20th-century German emigrants now reclaiming European passports. German-American communities are scattered across the Midwest, Texas, and the Mid-Atlantic.

  • Primary regions: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and German-American communities in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin and Texas
  • Language origin / family: Indo-European, Germanic language family
  • Estimated speakers: Around 130 million native speakers worldwide
