About the Farsi Language

Farsi — also called Persian — has around 110 million speakers across Iran, parts of Afghanistan (where the variant is called Dari), and Tajikistan (where it is called Tajik). In the United States the largest Iranian-American community is in greater Los Angeles, often called Tehrangeles, with further communities in Washington DC, the Bay Area, Houston, and New York. We translate a steady mix of Iranian civil documents — shenasnameh (the Iranian ID booklet), birth and marriage certificates, university degrees — alongside USCIS asylum-application paperwork, which is one of the most frequent reasons US-based Farsi translation is requested. The script is Perso-Arabic and written right-to-left.

  • Primary regions: Iran
  • Language origin / family: Iran
  • Estimated speakers: 70 million
