About the Chin Language

Chin refers to a group of related Tibeto-Burman languages spoken by around 1.5 million people in Myanmar's Chin State, parts of Bangladesh, and northeastern India. The Chin community has been heavily impacted by displacement from Myanmar — particularly the Christian Chin populations targeted by the Burmese military — with significant refugee resettlement in Indianapolis (often called the Chin capital of the US), Houston, Atlanta, and Fort Wayne. Our Chin translation work is overwhelmingly USCIS asylum and refugee paperwork, healthcare consent forms, and school-enrolment documents for recently resettled families.

  • Primary regions: Myanmar, India
  • Language origin / family: Chin Hills, Myanmar
  • Estimated speakers: 0.6 million
