View transcription service →Cambodian — also called Khmer — is the official language of Cambodia, with around 16 million speakers. The Cambodian-American community formed in the late 1970s as refugees fleeing the Khmer Rouge regime resettled in Long Beach (California), Lowell (Massachusetts), Stockton, and Philadelphia. Long Beach in particular hosts the largest Cambodian community outside Southeast Asia. We translate Khmer birth and marriage certificates for USCIS, the documentation surrounding older community members' citizenship and benefits applications, and the occasional business contract tied to the Cambodian garment and rice export sectors. Khmer uses its own script, an abugida written left-to-right with no spaces between words.
