About the Cakchiquel Language

Cakchiquel (Kaqchikel) is a Mayan language spoken by around 600,000 people in the central highlands of Guatemala, particularly around Lake Atitlán and the city of Chimaltenango. It's one of more than 20 surviving Mayan languages in Mesoamerica. The US Cakchiquel-speaking community is concentrated in Los Angeles, parts of Texas, and South Florida — driven by Guatemalan migration since the 1980s civil conflict. Our Cakchiquel translation work is mostly USCIS asylum documentation, alongside the healthcare and school paperwork required by recent Mayan-Guatemalan refugees.
