About the Akan Language

Akan is a group of closely related languages of southern Ghana and parts of Côte d'Ivoire — including Twi, Fante, and Asante — collectively spoken by around 11 million people and widely used in Ghanaian business and media. The Ghanaian-American community is concentrated in the Bronx, Newark, Worcester, and Chicago, with strong representation in healthcare and academia. Our Akan translation work is mostly USCIS civil documents (Ghanaian birth and marriage certificates), academic transcripts for credential evaluation, and the church and community-association documents that accompany the established Ghanaian-American religious networks.

  • Primary regions: Ghana
  • Language origin / family: Southern Ghana
